A Prague Apartment with a Soft Spot for Cork

Uploaded by admin under Home Depot [4 views ]

Formafatal gave this 840-square-foot apartment in the heart of Prague a modern look using cork.  This soft wood is a more sustainable construction material because it is made using bark, which grows back, and does not require actually cutting down the tree.

Each part of the apartment seems to hit the exact same note, giving it a uniform feel with light design features and gray accents.  Cork flooring runs throughout most of the apartment.  On one side, it runs into a minimalist kitchen with clean, light gray cabinets.

The adjacent dining space centers around a cork lamp hanging from the ceiling.  A bookshelf running the length of the wall behind the table adds a backdrop that is interesting without being busy.  It achieves this look by using neutral colors that mimic those used in the rest of the space.

Formafatal laid small circular tiles of cork in a tight pattern along a bathroom wall, beginning at its modern grey stone bathtub and ascending to the ceiling.  This unique design is a similar concept to the dining room’s bookshelf.  It is eye-catching and interesting, but allows the space to retain its minimalist style.
