Beach Bungalow in Sydney Goes Contemporary

Uploaded by admin under Home Depot [12 views ]

Luigi Rosselli Architects completed the renovation and extension of a beach bungalow in Sydney. Between the stilts that elevate the new second floor, a brass porthole window installed in the garage door below is an ode to the ships sailing nearby.

Traditional and modern elements complement each other throughout the home and verandas. The captain’s deck peeks out from above, offering soothing ocean views. Ultramarine weatherboards and the original white timber windows make for a breezy, summery house.

A large timber truss, the main support for the additions and roof, spans the stairwell. A skylight in the center of the building floods the interiors with natural light. At the back of the house, facing a tropical garden dense with palms and ferns, is a room with a massive sliding shutter.

The additions are weaved throughout the home with playfulness and sympathy toward the old timberwork. The old and new finishes combine for a relaxed atmosphere — but what else would you expect from a laid-back beach bungalow? [Photos and information provided by Luigi Rosselli Architects]
